Ito Ya in Ginza is hands down the bestest stationary store in Tokyo. There are 9 floors of stationary and (I recently discovered) more than one Ito Ya. If you go out the back entrance, there's another one that sells traditional Japanese paper and stuff made from traditional Japanese paper. And a third on near that!
The ground floor in the big Ito Ya has all sorts of greeting cards. At Christmas it's packed with people shopping for these. A lot of them fold out in interesting ways, like one I bought a few years ago which opened up to make a Showa era living room, with a pot of Sukiyaki boiling in the middle.
Next floor is fancy pens, then fancy leather cases and other goods. Then my favourite, the cheapie pen and pencil floor. A vast range of stuff for pen-junkies and endless supplies of smooth paper to try them on.
I rarely go further, but I've seen office chairs and other office equipment further up. I don't think I've ever made it to the 9th floor. Their website says that they have a "Tea Lounge" up there though.
